RANC-SAMBURU brings together five interconnected areas of intervention designed to address the realities facing neurodivergent people and their families in underserved communities. Our integrated, community-based model combines healthcare, education, family support, workforce development, and sustainable social enterprise to address the interconnected challenges facing neurodivergent individuals in Samburu County and other underserved communities. Every programme is grounded in dignity, human rights, safeguarding, and community leadership.

Pillar 1
Early Identification & Rehabilitation
Early support can change life trajectories.
Our community-based approach seeks to identify children and young people who may otherwise remain hidden from formal services.
Our work includes:

- Physical rehabilitation
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Mobile Access
We are developing an off-grid mobile diagnostic and rehabilitation unit designed to reach remote and road-inaccessible communities.
The mobile unit will help bring multidisciplinary services closer to families rather than requiring every family to travel long distances to urban centres.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Education & Lifelong Development
Education should create pathways to participation—not exclusion.
Our programmes support children and young people to develop communication, learning, social, practical and vocational skills according to their abilities and aspirations.

Pillar 3
Family & Caregiver Well-Being
Families are not peripheral to neurodiversity support. They are central to it.
Our caregiver programme combines psychosocial support, practical capacity-building and economic empowerment.
Three-tier approach
Tier 1 — Knowledge & Awareness
Helping families understand neurodivergence, communication, support needs, rights and safeguarding.
Tier 2 — Family Support
Providing psychosocial support, peer connection and collaborative planning.
Tier 3 — Economic Empowerment
Connecting caregivers with income-generating activities, savings mechanisms, cooperative structures and livelihood opportunities.
Our goal is to reduce isolation and unpaid care pressures while strengthening family resilience and economic security.

Neurodiversity-Competent Workforce Development
RANC-SAMBURU Volunteer Academy
A sustainable neuroinclusive system requires skilled people.
The RANC-SAMBURU Volunteer Academy is designed to provide structured learning and practical experience for students and emerging professionals.
The proposed Inclusive Learning Hub will engage learners from institutions including:
- Kenya Medical Training College
- Kenya Institute of Special Education
- Universities
- Health training institutions
- Education and rehabilitation programmes
Four-Week Training Programme
The planned programme will combine:
- Neurodiversity foundations
- Community-based practice
- Communication and AAC
- Safeguarding
- Family-centered approaches
- Inclusive education
- Disability rights
- Practical community experience
- Ethical practice
We explicitly reject exploitative or extractive forms of volunteer tourism.
Learning must benefit communities while maintaining safeguarding, supervision, accountability and respect.
Pillar 5
Sustainable Social Enterprise
RANC-SAMBURU Glamping Base Resort
Long-term impact requires sustainable systems.
Our proposed social enterprise will explore the intersection of conservation, responsible tourism, caregiver livelihoods, wellness and organisational sustainability.
Potential activities include:
Astro-Tourism
Samburu’s relatively low-light environment offers opportunities for responsible dark-sky tourism and astronomy experiences.
Caregiver-Led Enterprise
Creating opportunities for caregivers to participate in hospitality, crafts, food, tourism and related enterprises.
Wellness & Hippotherapy
Exploring structured wellness and therapeutic programmes where appropriate professional standards, safeguarding and evidence-based practice can be maintained.
Conference & Learning Facility
Providing space for training, conferences, research, professional development and community dialogue.
Sustainability Target
The enterprise is intended to contribute toward organisational operational costs, with a projected target of 30% operational cost recovery by Year 3.
