Remnants Arise Neurodiversity Center–Samburu (RANC-SAMBURU) is a Kenyan registered nonprofit working to advance the rights, dignity and holistic well-being of neurodivergent children, youth and their families in Northern Kenya.Our approach brings together community-based identification and rehabilitation, inclusive education, family and caregiver support, workforce development, and sustainable social enterprise to build locally led pathways from exclusion to participation.We don't just respond to neurodivergence. We work with communities to transform the systems, attitudes and opportunities surrounding it.

To advance rights-based, neurodiversity-affirming and community-led systems that enable neurodivergent children, youth and families to access identification, rehabilitation, education, protection, livelihoods and meaningful participation.
The Challenge
Neurodivergence should never be a reason for exclusion.
Neurodivergent people and their families possess strengths, aspirations and rights. Yet barriers to identification, appropriate support, education, protection, livelihoods and participation can limit their opportunities.
Misunderstanding can lead to harmful practices, including confinement, chaining, violence and other forms of abuse and neglect.
Families—particularly women who carry much of the unpaid caregiving burden—can experience social isolation, economic insecurity and increased vulnerability to gender-based violence.
RANC-SAMBURU works to change this reality by bringing services, knowledge, protection and opportunity closer to communities.

An Integrated Neurodiversity Ecosystem
01 — Early Identification & Rehabilitation
We promote early, strength-based identification and individualized support through community-based assessment and rehabilitation.
Our model includes:
- Strength-based developmental assessments
- Occupational therapy
- Speech and language support
- Physical rehabilitation
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
- Family-centered intervention planning
- Community outreach
- Mobile diagnostic and rehabilitation services
Our planned off-grid mobile diagnostic unit will help reach children and families living in remote and road-inaccessible communities.
02 — Neurodiversity-Affirming Education & Lifelong Development
Every person deserves opportunities to learn and develop according to their abilities, interests and aspirations.

03 — Family & Caregiver Well-Being

RANC-SAMBURU provides a three-tier approach to caregiver capacity-building that combines:

Our goal is to reduce unpaid care pressures while strengthening families’ ability to support their loved ones with dignity.
04 — Neurodiversity-Competent Workforce Development
Building the people who will build the system.
Through the RANC-SAMBURU Volunteer Academy, we aim to develop a skilled national talent pipeline for community-based neurodiversity support.
Our Inclusive Learning Hub will provide structured practical learning opportunities for students and emerging professionals from institutions including:
- Kenya Medical Training College
- Kenya Institute of Special Education
- Kenyan universities
- Allied health and education institutions
Our model prioritizes ethical, community-rooted learning rather than volunteer tourism.
Participants will learn alongside communities, under appropriate supervision, safeguarding standards and professional guidance.
05 — Sustainable Social Enterprise
Building sustainability into the model.
RANC-SAMBURU is developing a social enterprise approach designed to contribute toward long-term operational sustainability while creating opportunities for caregivers and local communities.
The proposed RANC-SAMBURU Glamping Base Resort will explore opportunities around:
- Astro-tourism
- Samburu’s dark skies
- Caregiver-led hospitality enterprises
- Hippotherapy and wellness retreats
- Conference and learning facilities
- Community employment
- Skills development
Enterprise income is intended to complement—not replace—philanthropic and development partnerships.

The Academy develops a new generation of neurodiversity-competent professionals, community workers and practitioners through structured, ethical and inclusive learning.
RANC-SAMBURU Glamping Base Resort
The social enterprise branch explores sustainable revenue generation, local employment and caregiver economic participation through responsible tourism and wellness programming.
